QUESTION: HOW TO ADD LEAD SHOT TO VR-2 & VR-4 JR?
ANSWER: Adding lead-shot to the bass of each VR4 JR or VR 2 speaker will improve the bass sound by as much as 50%! Use lead shot to fill - which can be purchased at Wallmart in the sporting goods section (lead-shot is used to fill shotgun shells). You can fill EACH speaker with either 25 or 50lbs of lead shot - but no more than 50lbs!!! Put the same amount in each speaker but do not try to fill the entire cavity, some open space is required for optimum sound.
The lead shot is poured into the speaker through an opening in the bottom of the bass cabinet - undo the plate, remove, fill and replace the plate.
CAUTION: Make sure you position the speakers first so you know exactly where they will go before filling and do NOT "walk" the speakers on the spikes (with or without shot in the speakers) as this will damage the cabinets as the spikes could rip out of the bass cabinets. If you need to move or position the speaker after filling with lead shot - remove the spikes, position the speakers, then put the spikes back on.
You can use only 25lbs of lead shot per speaker and still get 90% of the sound improvement that you would get if you used 50lbs per speaker - your option. Cost is around $1/per lb at Wallmart. This is a significant improvement in the sound of the speakers as it makes the cabinet very inert thus the improvement in the bass.
Sand can also be substituted and works very well.
