For the sealed box, with the help of the T/S parameter, you can
choose the dimensions of the box to decide the Q of the box.

So, you must get the rest of the parameter to start calculating
the box !!!!!

Why don't you call the manufacturers by phone to ask them.
I am sure they will be happy to tell you or otherwise ask them to
give you their suggested design.

Dangerous to look at the shape of the driver to design the box.
Well otherwise there won't be T/S parameter for the speaker
design.

Speaker box design now mostly based on the T/S parameter
( Thiel & Small ) that some essential data is a must for designing
a speaker box.

It is also true that after calculation, there are so many options for
the designer to determine such as the Q of the box, the
diameter and the length of the vent ( for vented box ) that would
affect the noise level of the air flow.

The calculation would also calculate this air velocity when you
decided the diameter of the duct (vent). Exceeding this limit
will result air flow noise as when the woofer is in action, there
are air flowing in and out the duct, the thinner the duct, the
higher the air velocity.

However, the diameter of the duct is so designed not to exceed
say the velocity of 0.3 Mark  ( Mark is the unit of air velocity) to
be a common practice on speaker design but not look at the
shape of the driver and design.

It's a pity that Boeing cannot provide those T/S parameter to
otherwise it is easy to design a box for him.

Upon finishing the box, then the tweaking come afterward
such as how many cotton fibre to put into the box will take time
to experiment. The caps and the coil of the crossover can also
be the parts to be try and error.

Boeing, I can tell you there will be a lot hard work if you went
wrong at the first place.

So don't listen to some people said look at the cone, look at
the voice coil then design your bos.

If so, please ask them how to start????

Hi Boing,

Give me more detail parameter such as the diameter of the
woofer and others, Qms, Qes, and will give you the box design
and x'over design.

Qms is the mechanical Q of the driver
Qes is the electrical Q of the driver
Qts is the total Qof Qms and Qes.

There are other T/S ( Theil and Small ) parameters which is necessary to
calculate the box volume. Others are,

Fs  Resonance frequency of the driver in free air
Re DC resistance of voice coil
Le  Inductance of the voice coil ( usually at 1K Hz )
Z   Impedance of the driver
Sd  Volume of the cone
Dia  Diameter of the cone

If you could provide these parameters, then I can calculate the box
volume both in vented box and sealed box and of course x'over.

Look at the information on you post, the best crossover frequency is at
2.2k Hz to avoid the peak from the woofer and the roll off of the tweeter.

You can call the manufacturer to ask for those parameter and I think it is
silly not to supply these data to user as this doesn't make sense or
insufficient to design a box. They should know it.

Yeah buddy, you've got it right. I am waiting for your informations.

As I'd been browsing this topic for the last 2 day to see your response but
I can't find it up to 20 pages.
