St Matthew Passion from René Jacobs and Harmonia Mundi
René Jacobs is to record the St Matthew Passion with the RIAS Kammerchor and Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin: this is the first time that he's committed a Passion to disc as conductor (though he sang the alto solos on Gustav Leonhardt's landmark 1989 recording) and we can't wait to hear how he'll bring the keen dramatic instinct that's so evident in his opera recordings to bear on the work. With Werner Güra as Evangelist, Johannes Weisser as Christus and stellar soloists (Sunhae Im, Bernarda Fink, Topi Lehtipuu and Konstantin Wolff) this promises to be one of the highlights of the autumn!
